    UPMC Shadyside is currently hiring a Weekend Registered Nurse to support the 3 West Orthopedic Unit. Our Weekend RNs work 48 weekends per year, 24 hours per weekend, and can choose between 2, 12-hour shifts or 3, 8-hour shifts. Weekend RNs are considered Full-Time and receive 25% on top of base pay!

    About the Position & Unit:

    3 West is an Orthopedic unit that specializes in total joint replacement, orthopedic oncology surgical services, spine surgery, sports injuries, and a wide range of medical management. New and experienced nurses will experience an exciting range of services including wound care, surgical recovery, patient education, and the opportunity to see motivated patients work to get back on their feet through physical therapy and other nursing modalities. Our unit works collaboratively with all members of the care team and participates in "care coordination" where the nurse is a critical part of the patient's discharge planning. Among patient care, nurses will have the opportunity to participate in hospital-based councils, committees, research projects, and continued unit development and quality projects. We strongly encourage our nursing staff to continue their education through academia and/or certifications, in-services and conferences. 3 West understands the importance of growth and continued learning as the medical field continues to grow and evolve.     • 1 year of nursing experience preferred (6 months required)

    • BSN preferred.

    • The individual must be able to demonstrate the knowledge and skills necessary to provide care and/or interact appropriately to the ages of the patients served by his/her assigned unit as specified below.

    • They must also demonstrate knowledge of the principles of growth and development over the life span and process the ability to assess data reflective of the patients status and interpret the appropriate information needed to identify each patients requirements relative to his/her age-specific needs and to provide the care needs as described in the department policy and procedures.

    • Ability to establish and maintain positive, caring relationships with executives, managers, physicians, non-physician providers, ancillary and support staff, other departments, and patients/families.

    • Ability to work productively and effectively within complex environment, handle multiple/changing priorities and specialized equipment.

    • Good clinical judgement with critical thinking, analytical and problem solving abilities required as related to various aspects of patient care.

    • Critical thinking skills necessary to exercise and to lead others in application of the nursing process. Mobility and visual manual dexterity.

    • Physical stamina for frequent walking, standing, lifting, and positioning of patients.

    Licensure, Certifications, and Clearances:

    • Basic Life Support (BLS) OR Cardiopulmonary Resuscitation (CPR)

    • CPR required based on AHA standards that include both didactic and skills demonstration component within 30 days of hire.

    • Registered Nurse (RN)

    • Current licensure either in the state where the facility is located or, if the facility is in a state covered by the multistate Nursing Licensure Compact (NLC) agreement, a multistate license issued by a participating NLC state.

    • Hires and current employees working on an out-of-state NLC license who later change their residency to the state where the facility is also located will have 60 days upon changing their residency to apply for licensure within that state.
