  • Job Summary

    Join a dynamic team in delivering an integrated, active learning-based curriculum focusing on Anatomy and Embryology. This full-time faculty position (1.0 FTE) primarily involves teaching with rank and salary based on experience and qualifications. Geisinger Commonwealth School of Medicine (GCSOM) was established in Scranton, PA, in 2008 through the grassroots efforts of visionary individuals who foresaw what a community-based medical school would bring to the region and worked to make it a reality. GCSOM is part of Geisinger College of Health Sciences and includes a School of Nursing, School of Graduate Education, and a Research Institute distributed over six regional campuses. This position is based in the Scranton, PA, campus. The MD Curriculum is an integrated, active learning-based curriculum built on the clinical presentation model and uses emerging neurobiological evidence on knowledge acquisition, skill development, and wellness to shape a robust approach to medical school teaching and learning. The curriculum also features our Systems, Society, and Humanism in Medicine (SSHM) core, composed of six longitudinal themes that are integrated throughout the curriculum meant to transform socially responsible students into socially accountable leaders in the healthcare system and their communities. In addition, Geisinger's longstanding commitment to patient access and clinical excellence has been a driving force in shaping our approach to medical education. The GCSOM curriculum also provides a strong foundation in research, offering a robust range of research opportunities, including: a four-year Medical Research Honors Program, a Summer Research Immersion Program, and other longitudinal research opportunities

    Job Duties

    • Collaborating with faculty to develop and deliver integrated anatomy and embryology content for the MD program, and a stand-alone anatomy course for the Master of Biomedical Sciences (MBS) program.

    • Engaging in the creation of both formative and summative assessments.

    • Acting as a co-course director in phase 1 (pre-clerkship) UME courses or in the MBS anatomy course.

    • Contributing to or leading scholarship in medical education or the field of expertise/interest.

    • Supervising and mentoring medical students in scholarly projects.

    • Participate in the MD student interviewing and selection process.

    • Pursuing professional growth and development through seminars, trainings, workshops, the current literature and professional affiliations regarding trends and practices in medical education and the field of expertise/interest.

    • Contributing service to the department, institution, or field of interest.

    Position Details

    Highly Preferred Qualifications

    • Terminal Degree (Ph.D., MD, DO) with relevant clinical or educational experience.

    • Demonstrable experience in teaching medical students using human cadavers for dissection-based anatomy is required, along with expertise in anatomy and embryology.

    • Experience with active learning/flipped classroom/evidence-based pedagogy (e.g., Case Based Learning, simulation, Team Based Learning).

    • Demonstrated ability or potential for developing scholarship in medical education or the field of expertise/interest that comports with academic rank.

    • Preference is given to those with experience in course leadership and/or in leading faculty teams.
