  • Some of what you'll be doing:

    As a Systems Engineer, you will be responsible for Designing, Implementing, and Supporting complex Enterprise Systems critical for the operations of various Port of Seattle business units and the Public. In addition, the Systems Engineer also partners with Business units to provide Technology Guidance and mentorship to other Information and Communications Technology (ICT) teams.

    • You will lead the system design process by working with various ICT Engineering teams, Business Units, and External Vendors to develop System Architecture using Technology standards and Industry best practices. (System Support)

    • You will work with the project team, external vendors, and business units to deploy, configure, and maintain technology platforms and enterprise systems.

    • You will proactively monitor systems to identify and resolve issues and provide on-call support twenty-four hours a week to recover systems from critical failures (rotating schedule with the other team members).

    • You will work with ICT Engineering teams to build automated deployments and environments using CHEF Azure DevOps.

    • You will monitor and alert failures of Pre-Production and Production environments and automate recovery of application failures using scripts (Linux Shell scripting, PowerShell, and Python) and monitoring tools like SiteScope/Nagios.

    • You will provide technical support and mentorship to other ICT teams, Vendors, and POS Business teams on using industry best practices, technology standards, and requirements (Technology guidance and consultation).

    • You will develop and implement processes, standards, and best practices and evangelize to other ICT Teams, POS Business Units, and Vendors (Process design and implementation).

    • You will participate in the system procurement process and provide technical guidance to select systems that fit the POS standards (System evaluation).

    Who you are:

    • Experienced - You have three (3) years of experience implementing and supporting Enterprise Systems. Additionally, you have a working knowledge of Network, Server, and Technology Platforms and tools, as well as experience writing scripts to monitor and recover systems including deploying web-based multi-tier systems.

    • Desired - We hope you have a Bachelor's or Master's degree in computer science, engineering, or related discipline, and five (5) years of advanced knowledge in technology. Additionally, you are an expert in a wide breadth of technology, tools, and software methodologies.

    • Knowledgeable - You have a working knowledge of Windows and Linux Server Technologies and Virtualization (VMWare), and understand different Networking Protocols and Services such as Firewall, TCP/IP, DNS, DHCP, Active Directory, and SNMP. You know one or more programming languages such as .NET (C#, Visual ~~~), Java, Python; one or more scripting languages, such as PowerShell or Shell scripting, and knowledge of the following technologies, software tools, and SaaS Platforms: Container technologies (Docker, Kubernetes, or others), Database Platforms (MySQL, SQL Server, Oracle, or others), SharePoint, BizTalk, WebSphere, and Salesforce Administration and Development.

    • Multi-Tasker - You are able to multitask as a resource on multiple projects. You offer strong skills in collaboration and have the ability to work well individually, or in a group setting to work towards a common goal.

    • Effective Communicator - You are very skilled in verbal and written communication techniques and can effectively work with clients at all levels of the organization.

    • Critical Thinker - You possess strong critical thinking and problem-solving skills and have the ability to learn and adapt to unfamiliar technical environments fast and effectively.

    • Adaptable - You can adapt to changing technologies by learning new Software tools and emerging technologies. You are a self-motivated engineer with an aptitude to self-learn and bring creative and innovative ideas to the team.

    • Organized - You possess strong organizational skills to manage activities and respond to daily interruptions while staying focused on current projects. You have a high level of time management skills.

    What else you need to know:

    • Work Schedule - Your regular work schedule will be Monday - Friday, 8:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m. (40 hours per week). Slightly more flexible start and end times are available in this role.

    • Work Environment - This work will occur in a hybrid remote/in-office setting at Management's discretion.

    • Washington State Residency Requirement - Employees must establish a residence in Washington State within 30 days of their first day of employment and maintain a residence in Washington State during their employment with the Port of Seattle. If a position is eligible for telework, work performed while teleworking must be performed in Washington State.

    • Security Requirements - As a successful candidate, you must pass a Transportation Security Administration (TSA) background check and a criminal history background check with the Federal Bureau of Investigation (FBI). Your employment will be contingent upon obtaining a Port of Seattle ID badge upon clearance.

    • Security Requirements - In this role, you will be required to access Port of Seattle Police Department equipment, office locations, systems, and/or vehicles. In compliance with Federal and State laws, as the successful candidate, you will be required to pass a Criminal Justice Information Services (CJIS) criminal history background check.

    • Grade Review - The pay range and grade for non-represented positions are under review and subject to change as part of the Port's work to implement a new pay program. This review is intended to ensure that positions are aligned with the new program that will be implemented in early 2024.
