    We are currently seeking an entry level student custodial/maintenance work position at Buffalo River State Park in Glyndon, MN. This position is 36 hours per week, and the days of work will vary from May through mid-August. This position will perform the tasks necessary to maintain buildings, grounds, facilities, and resources for the protection of park resources and the enjoyment of park visitors to Buffalo River State Park.

    Job duties include, but are not limited to:

    • Perform grounds maintenance so park visitors have a safe and enjoyable experience. Ensure that natural resources are protected and preserved in a safe and sanitary condition at all times.

    • Perform building maintenance so that the buildings are safe, clean, and attractive for park visitors. These buildings include the contact station, shop building, toilet and shower buildings, picnic shelter, pool building, and vault toilets.

    • Act as a public information distribution point to park visitors and others so that they are informed and are knowledgeable of the park area specifically and the Dept. of Natural Resources, its goals and policies, and the Fargo/Moorhead area in general.

    • Implement as directed resource management tasks so that the park's natural communities and cultural resources are protected, restored, or rehabilitated consistent with statewide and regional objectives.

    Minimum Qualifications

    To be eligible for appointment as a Student Worker you must be a student enrolled in an educational program or planning to enroll within three months. Students may be "off" for the summer or for one semester/quarter and remain employed as student workers, but such absences cannot exceed one semester/quarter in a year. As a student you must be enrolled in a post-secondary or graduate program. If a student is enrolled at a credit-granting institution he/she must carry at least six semester (nine quarter) credits. If enrolled at a non-credit granting institution or one that only offers one credit per class, a student must be taking two or more classes per semester/quarter. Any lesser credit (class) load shall be treated as a semester/quarter off. Graduate students must be enrolled in at least two courses or making progress on a dissertation. You will be asked to complete an Educational Verification form prior to appointment.

    Knowledge of:

    • Cleaning methods sufficient to meet health standards.

    • Tools and equipment sufficient to perform custodial/maintenance and/or grounds keeping work.

    Skill in:

    • Use and operation of small hand tools and small power tools sufficient to safely operate tools and equipment.

    • Verbal communications and human relations sufficient to deal effectively with supervisory staff, co-workers, and the public.

    Ability to:

    • Maintain and repair hand and power tools sufficient to ensure their availability and safe operation for projects.

    • Understand and follow simple instructions both oral and written sufficient to complete assignments correctly.

    Follow established safe work practices.

    Preferred Qualifications

    • Certification in CPR and First Aid.

    • Experience running lawn mowers and other lawn care equipment.

    • Experience in the use and operation of small hand and power tools.

    Additional Requirements

    • This position requires an unrestricted Class D Driver's license with a clear driving record.
