Staff Accountant

Description

We are looking for a Staff Accountant to join a nonprofit team of ours in Hartford, Connecticut. This role is vital to the financial health of their organization, with a focus on Accounts Payable (AP), Accounts Receivable (AR), Bank Reconciliations, and General Ledger operations. This position offers a short-term contract employment opportunity.

Responsibilities

• Manage all aspects of Accounts Payable (AP) and Accounts Receivable (AR) processes

• Conduct regular bank reconciliations and rectify any discrepancies

• Maintain and update the General Ledger, ensuring all entries are accurate and up-to-date

• Prepare and post Journal Entries as part of the Month End Close process

• Utilize Abila MIP and ~~~ software for various accounting tasks

• Monitor financial transactions, identify errors, and rectify them promptly

• Collaborate with other team members to ensure all financial reporting deadlines are met

• Maintain confidentiality of organizational information

• Keep up-to-date with current financial regulations and best practices in the industry

• Assist with other accounting projects as needed.

Requirements

• Must be proficient in handling Accounts Payable (AP) and Accounts Receivable (AR)

• Experience in performing Bank Reconciliations is essential

• Should possess strong knowledge of General Ledger management

• Ability to handle Journal Entries accurately and efficiently

• Experience in managing Month End Close activities

• Relevant experience in the nonprofit industry is a plus

• Bachelor's degree in Accounting, Finance, or related field is preferred

• Excellent communication skills, both written and verbal

• Strong analytical skills and attention to detail

• Ability to work independently and in a team

• Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite, particularly Excel

• Ability to adapt to new tools and software quickly

• Proven record of maintaining confidentiality in handling sensitive financial information.
