    Takes part in providing local technical assistance for the design, development, and implementation of environmental programs supporting one of the largest public sector infrastructure projects in the Pacific Northwest. This position will include serving as a task manager overseeing the design and execution of large field investigations performed in logistically-challenging industrial environments. Will be responsible for the development, design and execution of sediment, soil, and groundwater investigations. Generates accurate and concise documentation regarding assigned aspects of each project undertaken. Will lead teams, and assure projects are delivered and adhered to with a level of quality that meets or exceeds acceptable industry standards and project requirements for design, safety, and functionality. Work will include a mixture of field and office assignments; some travel is likely, including overnight stays.

    Your Impact

    • This position will encompass task management for all phases of contaminated site management, including site investigation and assessment, development and implementation of large-scale sample collection programs (including specification of analytical methodologies), and data evaluation for estuarine and marine surface waters and sediments.

    • This position will involve field work, including oversight of third-party operations, report writing and collaboration with other technical professionals, compilation and manipulation of data utilizing MS Excel®, MS Access®, JMP and R, and performing spatial analysis using ArcGIS to support data interpretation and technical analyses.

    • Fulfillment of this role will involve assisting senior project staff with the day-to-day management of the functional task, while developing deeper and broader expertise in the project toward progressively more responsibility in project work and in presenting the work to clients, stakeholders and other professionals. Direct client interaction will be required.

    • Perform and manage engineering work relating to research, investigation, and evaluation of existing site conditions, regulatory records, and site operational history to determine conformance with applicable rules, standards, and construction or operating permits.

    • Comply with safety guidelines and site-specific procedures which pertain to activities including, but not limited to, collection of site characterization data, engineering studies and surveys, and construction.Complete training and implement lessons learned on assigned tasks.

    • Exercise responsible and ethical decision-making regarding company funds and resources and personal conduct and adhere to WSP's Code of Conduct and related policies and procedures.

    • Perform additional related responsibilities as required by business needs.

    Who You Are

    Required Qualifications

    • Bachelor's Degree in Environmental Engineering, or closely related discipline, Master's degree is strongly preferred.

    • 7+ years of relevant post-education experience.

    • Due to client requirements, US citizenship is required.

    • Have strong familiarity with environmental chemistry/geochemistry (both organic and inorganic) and investigating marine/estaurine sediments.

    • Familiarity with relevant provisions of CERCLA (Superfund), MTCA and SMS regulations.

    • Excellent research skills with analytical mindset.

    • Excellent interpersonal and communication skills when interacting with others, expressing (orally and in written form) ideas effectively and professionally to engineering and non-engineering audiences.

    • Self-starter with a strong attention to detail, flexibility with multi-tasking, and competency in prioritization of responsibilities in a dynamic work environment.

    • Ability to work independently under general supervision, as well as to function as part of a team, to meet business objectives.

    • Proficiency with technical writing, office automation, software, spreadsheets, technology, and tools.Proven track record of upholding workplace safety and ability to abide by WSP's health, safety and drug/alcohol and harassment policies.

    • Ability to work schedules conducive to project-specific requirements that may extend beyond the typical workweek (overtime and weekend work is possible).

    • Ability to perform field assignments that may involve lifting and carrying heavy objects and walking on uneven terrain is required.

    • Flexibility for occasional travel, depending on project-specific requirements.

    • Driver's license or ability to obtain (within 6 months) and must successfully complete and pass WSP's Motor Vehicle screening.

    • Must be able to pass a HAZWOPER physical and be medically able to wear a tight-fitting respirator.

    • Engineer in Training Certification or ability to obtain, with desire to pursue licensing.

    • Basic proficiency with math principles, predictive models, and tools.

    • Experience with applications in the Microsoft Office suite, including Word, Excel, Access and PowerPoint.

    • This role is subject to a client-mandated drug/alcohol testing policy. As such, employee may be subject to random drug/alcohol tests. A copy of this policy will be provided during employee onboarding and is available upon applicant request.

    Preferred Qualifications:

    • Masters (MS or MEng) is desirable.

    • PE license (Environmental or Civil) is desirable; Washington State preferred.

    • Prior internship related to the degree of study and the specific engineering discipline is preferred.

    • Knowledge of construction cost estimating and construction processes is a plus, as is experience in dredging of contaminated sediments.

    • Experience with using graphical and statistical analysis software beyond standard MS Excel® (for example, JMP® software, R statistical software, and the Analysis ToolPak® add-in to MS Excel®) is a plus.

    • Intermediate or advanced skills with geographic information systems (e.g., ArcGIS) is a plus.

    • HAZWOPER 40-hour training is desirable.

    • Familiarity with a range of civil and environmental engineering practices including design and implementation of site investigations and sampling programs to assess sites impacted by hazardous or solid waste; application of remedial approaches to mitigate contamination of water and land resources; and collection of environmental monitoring data to assess remedial performance. Specialized knowledge in one or more of these areas is desired but not mandatory.

    Compensation

    Expected Salary (all locations): $79,100 - $182,000

    WSP USA is providing the compensation range that the company in good faith believes it might pay and offer for this position, based on the successful applicant's education, experience, knowledge, skills, abilities in addition to internal equity and specific geographic location. WSP USA reserves the right to ultimately pay more or less than the posted range and offer additional benefits and other compensation, depending on circumstances not related to an applicant's sex or other status protected by local, state, and/or federal law.
