    What You Can Expect

    The Senior Environmental Health & Safety Specialist:

    • Coordinates work associated with environmental protection programs.

    • Creates, implements, and maintains programs to protect or improve environmental quality and ensures compliance with all applicable federal, state, and local environmental laws and regulations, as well as appropriate regulatory bodies such as EPA, IDEM, DOH, and other relevant regulatory bodies.

    • Seeks out and implements best practices in relation to Zero Waste to Landfill, Recycling, and Sustainability.

    How You'll Create Impact

    • Performs all environmental management activities for Warsaw to ensure Zimmer Biomet is in full compliance on air and water regulations and the disposal of special and hazardous wastes.

    • Lead Sustainability projects aimed at reducing the carbon footprint of Warsaw operations.

    • Coordinate recycling program and lead initiatives that bring Warsaw towards zero landfill status.

    • Monitor operation of the non-contact cooling water system and sanitary sewer discharges. Submit monthly NPDES reports to the state. Monitor operation of other air and water pollution control equipment and report any deficiencies to appropriate personnel.

    • Obtain appropriate disposal permits for the hazardous, solid, and special waste streams. Submit necessary reports on Right-to-Know and Form R.

    • Review and approve/deny requests to bring in new chemicals for manufacturing.

    • Stay current on changes in environmental regulations by reading appropriate publications, attending required training sessions, and by close contact with Zimmer Biomet management team.

    • Communicate environmental issues, concerns, and needs to site leadership.

    • Develop and deliver environmental related training as needed.

    What Makes You Stand Out

    • Has a thorough knowledge of environmental regulations and common manufacturing operations, waste water pre-treatment, and of regulated and non-regulated waste disposal.

    • Demonstrates the ability to effectively lead and manage a diverse group of employees and contractors.

    • Has strong oral and written communication skills.

    • Understands financial management as it relates to capital and expense spending.

    • Understands organizational structure, operating culture, effective work styles, and achieving results in a changing environment.

    • Skilled in effective management of people and possess good oral and written communications skills. Knowledgeable of environmental regulations.

    Your Background

    • A minimum of a Bachelor's Degree in Environmental Health and Safety, Environmental Engineering, or equivalent degree is required.

    • A minimum of 3 years of related experience in a manufacturing environment is required.

    • Certified Safety Professional (CSP) or Certified Environmental Safety & Health Trainer (CET) certification is desirable.
