    Job Summary:

    Our Clinic's imaging mission is to provide expert personnel and state of the art ultrasound equipment to carry out research protocols for our Vanderbilt and Meharry researchers working to improve treatment and health outcomes for our patients and communities. This unique research diagnostic ultrasonography imaging role is responsible for echocardiography and vascular ultrasound imaging studies. Acquires echocardiography or vascular images following a specific research protocol. Work includes morphologic imaging, assessment of myocardial function, recording of hemodynamic parameters, evaluation of blood flow, muscle contrast imaging, and abdominal vascular ultrasound doppler imaging. May perform stress and contrast echocardiographic testing following a research protocol and under the direction of a physician. Demonstrates knowledge of cardiac, venous, and arterial anatomy, physiology, and function as well as independent judgment to obtain accurate diagnostic recordings and measurements of both cardiac and vascular structures as well as doppler evaluation of blood flow. Self-motivated, independent, conscientious sonographer with strict attention to detail that collaborates easily with the research team . Develops self and others; invests time, energy, and enthusiasm in developing self/others to help improve performance and gain knowledge in new areas. Performs research related activities such as uploading images, maintaining research certifications, and other duties as assigned.

    NOTE: THIS IS A FULL-TIME POSITION IN THE ADULT CLINICAL RESEARCH CENTER, MONDAY-FRIDAY WITH NO WEEKENDS OR HOLIDAYS.

    KEY RESPONSIBILITIES

    • Applies broad range of skills to ensure exam is completed timely and meets quality and compliance standards.

    • Provides appropriate Echo testing process to patients, staff and self according to prescribed safety standards.

    • Gathers echocardiographic diagnostic images for all patients including the clinically complex patients.

    • Communicates findings to the Healthcare Team including recognition of abnormal studies.

    • Assists in the orientation and training of new staff.

    TECHNICAL CAPABILITIES

    Echocardiography Technology (Novice)

    • Possesses sufficient fundamental proficiency to successfully demonstrate echocardiography technology in practical

    applications of moderate difficulty.

    Compliance - (Novice)

    • Can explain and apply basic statutory instructions in normal situations on the job. Understands the principles upon which the

    rules and regulations are based. Appropriately escalates problems relating to rules and regulations in timely and effective

    manner.

    Diagnostic Equipment - (Novice)

    • Possesses sufficient fundamental proficiency to successfully demonstrate the use of diagnostic tools in practical applications of

    moderate difficulty.

    Patient Documentation - (Novice)

    • Possesses sufficient fundamental proficiency to successfully demonstrate patient documentation in practical

    BASIC QUALIFICATIONS

    • Graduate of an approved discipline specific program (or equivalent experience) (Required)

    • 3 years relevant experience (Required)

    • Registered Diagnostic Cardiac Sonographer (Required)

    • Registered Vascular Sonographer (ARDMS or CCI) (Preferred)
