    Description:

    The outpatient staff nurse is responsible for the delivery of direct care of the pre and post-operative patient through the use of the nursing process while adhering to the standards of Nursing Care and policies and procedures of the hospital. The professional nurse coordinates care with other disciplines and collaborates with the patient, family, significant other, and physician on patient behalf

    EDUCATION: Must be a graduate of an accredited school of nursing.

    EXPERIENCE: Minimum of two years of pre- and post-op surgical care of patients.

    LICENSURE: Must possess a current license as a Registered Nurse from the State of Iowa.

    QUALIFICATIONS:

    • Must be knowledgeable regarding the nursing process and its application.

    • Must be able to read, write and follow written and oral instructions in English. Skilled in the post operative care of the infant, child, adolescent, adult and geriatric patient groups.

    • Obtains nursing continuing education units appropriate to clinical assignment. Maintains BCLS certification at health care provider level.

    • Possesses ability to function effectively during emergencies, in crises, and while under stress.

    • ACLS and PALS certification recommended

    ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS:

    • Adheres to standards of care for respective nursing units and utilizes the nursing process.

    • Demonstrates nursing knowledge and judgement concerning patient care delivery.

    • Demonstrates ability to establish priorities and organize effectively.

    • Demonstrates competence in the clinical practice area.
