    Summary

    This is an UNPAID internship through the DoD SkillBridge Program for transitioning active-duty US military personnel. DoD SkillBridge Internships are available to help transitioning active-duty military personnel gain real-world experience in the work force sometime during their final 180 days of active-duty service. The intern will actively train on meaningful projects and work closely with a mentor and with senior company leadership. HII Mission Technologies Internship programs are focused on placing transitioning military into internships that require KSAs, Education & Military Training similar to their current or previous military jobs; positions that could easily transition over to a full-time regular and permanent job with HII.

    Program of Instruction

    The SkillBridge intern will train as a Project Manager with HII - Mission Technologies (HII-MT), reporting to a designated HII-MT Supervisor. Primary goal - Learning project management principles, technologies, and core operational functions, while supporting an engineering laboratory environment. Secondary goal - Achieve a cross-organizational understanding of how industry works. Additionally, offering the SkillBridge Intern the opportunity to work alongside subject matter experts and assist in providing critical support to our clients. Our experts will provide OJT, and ensure interns complete our program with the confidence to accurately apply and perform the skills learned in this internship throughout their future careers. Interns gain valuable work experience and a look at what HII-MT offers employees.

    End State (3-4 month target)

    The intern will

    Be able to describe core functions of project management, have a basic knowledge of software technologies, government contracting procedures, managing program operations to ensure production schedules are met, system resources are utilized efficiently and effectively, and proper relationships are established between customers

    Gain a functional understanding of schedule, performance, and risk identification and mitigation on initiatives including but not limited to systems, tools, equipment, software, facilities and other activities

    Be oriented to profit and loss of a large complex program.

    Support a program contained at one primary geographic location however covering remote locations and multiple business functions and employees directly assigned to program

    Be trained on processes to track cost, schedule and technical performance of company programs

    Assumptions and Restrictions

    Interns are not authorized to represent HII to DoD or Government customers while participating in the internship program. Interns can participate and train behind the scenes as long as they are not interacting with customers.

    If candidate is selected and approved, interns can be present to work with one of the Business Development (BD) or Capture teams located at one of the primary HII Office locations nationwide.

    Training Plan

    Phase 1 - Basics

    In processing, Introductions and office familiarization

    Intro to Program Management, Operations, Annual Operating Plans, and BD

    Intro to primary customer contact for program activities, leading program review sessions with customer to discuss cost, schedule, and technical performance

    Intro to program milestones and monitoring adherence to master plans and schedules, identify program problems and obtains solutions, such as allocation of resources or changing contractual specifications

    Intro to work of employees including management level assigned to the program from technical, manufacturing and administrative areas

    Phase 2 - Project Management

    Review of HII-MT portfolio - C5ISR, and cyber; secure enterprise IT engineering and operations; military training and simulation; logistics management and integrated product support; and fleet maintenance, modernization, repair and sustainment.

    Coordinate resolutions to production-related problems

    Managing required manpower support levels throughout the period of performance of the task order

    Lab processes, procedures, and execution of tasking

    Phase 3 - Federal Contracting

    HII-MT existing FEDSIM, IAC MAC contract vehicles, available ceilings for additional revenue generation, and how DoD customers use these pathways to pay for services and products

    How Operations interacts and supports Growth elements - BD, Capture Management, and Proposals

    Standardization practices across various business groups, process options to suit specific needs, and preventing project failures

    Minimum Qualifications

    Active-Duty Military ONLY within final 180 days of active-duty service. Education and Experience dependent on Program of Instruction.

    Must have a current/active DoD Secret Security Clearance

    Preferred Requirements

    Transitioning US military service member with program/project management experience and technical background
