  • The KOMAN Family of companies has an exciting opportunity for an experienced Project Accountant. This position will be based in our Richland, WA Office.

    The Project Accountant performs staff accountant duties with an emphasis on accounting for projects and compliance for our Services subsidiaries.

    ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:

    • Enter and maintain all applicable accounting and project data in ERP system based on contract requirements for appropriate type (FFP, T&M, Cost Plus, etc), FAR Clauses and contract date.

    • Initiate and lead monthly project Owner billing process by gathering relevant cost information and coordinating related tasks with Project Managers.

    • Perform update procedures over forecasts, budget modifications, and change orders within the ERP system.

    • Prepare and reconcile project billings, ensuring all allowable costs are billed in a timely manner.

    • Follow up on customer invoices over 45 days and document issues/comments with Accounting Manager.

    • Prepare final invoice package containing draft and final invoices for all billable projects, including all applicable backup for approval by the Accounting Supervisor.

    • Maintain accounting records in accordance with Generally Accepted Accounting Principles (GAAP) on assigned projects.

    • Effectively communicate with Project Managers (PM) regarding contract documents, change orders and other contract modifications, approvals, and any additional services-related to billing.

    • Set-up & close out of jobs in JAMIS ERP system.

    • Have an understanding of Revenue recognition principles and apply them to fixed price and time and material contracts.

    • PM Forecast sheet set-up/monthly management

    • Prepare job-cost reporting for Project Manager.

    • Analyze monthly project accounting metrics to explain the status of project financial position.

    • Provide support for audits, which may include research and project reconciliations.

    • Assist with month-end financial statement preparation and general ledger reconciliations.

    • Perform additional assignments and/or duties, as directed by the Accounting Manager.

    • Maintain the billing folders for all projects, with all the appropriate documents, including expenses, consultant invoices, and monthly invoices, in accordance with standard procedures.

    • Professionally interact with colleagues, members of the public, clients, and business associates.

    • Comply with all company policies and applicable laws.

    • Set up new projects, make transfers of employee billable hours and/or expenses, and open and close time classes in company system.

    • Prepare balance sheet account reconcilements, as directed by the Accounting Supervisor.

    • Provide year-end support of auditor requirements, which may include research and reconcilement.

    REQUIREMENTS:

    • Bachelor's Degree in Accounting or Finance or equivalent work experience.

    • 3-5 years related accounting experience, preferably in government contracting.

    • Intermediate to advanced skills in MS Office, especially Excel, and use of accounting software.

    • Knowledge of bookkeeping and accounting principles, practices, standards, laws and regulations.

    • Knowledge of standard contract terms and how they're applied in the billing process.

    • Self-starter, ability to work independently, take initiative, set priorities, and see projects through to completion.

    • Strong communication and organizational skills.

    • High attention to detail and accuracy of data and information.
