    Join a Top 10 global design firm in our Texas buildings practice that provides Architecture, Buildings Engineering, and Interior Design services with a long history and deep commitment to the education sector. Our Austin office is seeking a Principal and Senior Project Manager to support a variety of key projects and join our award-winning Education-focused team to diversify our Texas portfolio into new sectors - Industrial, Civic, DOD and Workplace.

    The successful candidate will be leading clients through the planning and creation of fiscally responsible, award-winning designs. You will be working with clients, design and construction team members, program and project management processes, and strong project leaders. You will be responsible for Construction Administration, and you will be innovating and creating new prototypes designed with sustainable products with green architecture sensibility as your goals.

    The principal brings deep mission critical architectural delivery experience and relationships in the industry to contribute to the overall strategic and tactical leadership of the Stantec mission critical team, helping to grow and lead the existing mission critical engineering practice in Texas. This position will lead strategic projects, be client facing, responsible for business development, contribute to project delivery standards and work processes, provide quality control, workload forecasting, financial performance accountability and collaboration with other disciplines. Principal supports business development including but not limited to establishing new business, maintaining existing accounts, reviewing proposals, client management and participating in projects where technical or client advisement/oversight is needed. The principal contributes to differentiating Stantec from other competing firms, and positions Stantec as innovators in the industry.

    Your Key Responsibilities

    Business Development/Marketing - approximately 20% of time

    • Be a primary contributor to growing Stantec's Architectural practice in Texas.

    • Interface regularly with additional architectural leaders in the US and contribute within the Texas integrated design practice.

    • Develop strategic and tactical business development and marketing plans for the mission critical practice and align with Business Center and regional Buildings group goals and strategies and brand position priorities.

    • Sustain and grow top line revenue helping to achieve growth objectives in the PNW and work collaboratively with the Regional Business Leader, Business Center Practice Leaders, and other Engineering leaders in US to achieve key operational performance metrics.

    • Develop and maintain industry relationships and visibility with current and prospective clients, sub-consultants, and partner firms in the local and regional A/E industry.

    • Assist with the development of the annual business plan and budget for the business center and working with the leadership team to achieve key performance indicators.

    • Develop presentation materials and present to clients and at strategic industry events.

    • Represent the firm through published articles, public speaking engagements and attendance at industry and community events, meetings, and conferences.

    • Develop project proposals.

    • Assist the marketing department with the development of electrical engineering marketing materials and content.

    • Sustain and grow revenue within your region and across the North American market, helping to attract top tier clients and achieve top line growth.

    • Collaborate with technical and managerial project leads to achieve key operational performance metrics including traditional financial metrics as well as demonstrating improved health outcomes for the projects we deliver.

    • Lead local and regional business development pursuits including pre-positioning, strategic proposal development inclusive of interior design, medical planning, architecture, and engineering professionals, to achieve business development and financial goals in accordance with Stantec policies.

    • Serve as a seller-doer generating work, creating long-term relationships, and delivering long-term value to clients for Stantec.

    • Develop and maintain industry relationships and visibility with current and prospective clients, sub-consultants, competitor/teaming partners, and potential recruits.

    • Contribute to the thought leadership and brand of Stantec, by sharing knowledge and innovation stories at key client engagements, industry events and across professional networks.

    People and Practice Management - approximately 20% of time

    • Help hire and lead a team consisting of architects and production staff.

    • In conjunction with other stakeholders, identify and forecast staff needs and assignments based on current and projected workload and SME requirements.

    • Hold project team members accountable for technical excellence, delivery standards, and best practices.

    • Responsible for managing the financial performance, quality control processes, and project delivery for mission critical projects.

    • Ensure compliance with best practices, including Stantec PM Frameworks Project Involvement.

    Project Design & Delivery - approximately 50% of the time

    • Manage complex tasks on multiple, large scope, highly complex projects.

    • Participate and help win work in interviews for potential projects.

    • Plans, organizes, and directs the work throughout the life of the project to successfully deliver the project to the client.

    • Keeps the Principal in Charge informed of progress on project expectations, deadlines, and deliverables and understands the limits of the decision-making responsibilities of the role and respects the boundaries of the Principal in Charge's responsibilities.

    • Leads the client and project team to assure that the project design meets the client budget, schedule, program, and design intent.

    • Develop and manage project budget, schedule, and overall work plan to realize target financial performance.

    • Mentors Assistant Project Managers and motivates project teams.

    • Assures that Project Management Framework tasks are timely completed and properly documented.

    • Leads project coordination and owner/site meetings with internal team members and/or external consultants, owner and contractor and sub-contractors.

    • Manages and tracks change orders, applications for payment by contractors and other contractual modifications impacting budget and schedule.

    • Works with Operations Manager in determining project staffing needs and recommending personnel.

    • Directs client invoicing and effectively manages collections.

    Technical Leadership - approximately 10% of the time

    • Serves as Architectural expert on assigned projects.

    • Leads/Performs/Analyzes existing conditions to develop comprehensive architectural solutions.

    • Applies strong architecture skills and knowledge to research and develop solutions to complex architectural challenges.

    • Supports project requirements including basis-of design narratives, cost estimates, drawing documentation, systems design, and technical specifications.

    • Collaborates with project managers and supporting design staff as part of a coordinated design team.

    • Actively participates in the development of junior level design staff through work on projects as well as serving as a trainer, mentor, and resource.

    • Maintain awareness of operational, technical, or regulatory changes overall, disseminate such knowledge to staff and firm, and integrate into existing processes and standards.

    • Maintain and update Architectural specifications, technical documentation, and standards in collaboration with other Sr. Architects technical resources in Stantec. Oversee Architectural design delivery process and best practices and coordinate with other disciplines.

    • Provide oversight for Architectural staff education and certification process & balance firm, studio and staff needs.

    • Learning/Maintaining and Expanding Technical and Managerial Skills.

    • Maintain current knowledge of technologies and trends impacting Stantec's core service offerings and markets and continually strengthens skills.

    • Ability to integrate design elements with other disciplines to deliver a coordinated design.

    • Strong knowledge of applicable codes and standards.

    • A comma Strong knowledge of mission critical communities including architects, engineers, contractors, and facilities, both stakeholders and key decision-makers.

    • Deep understanding of and ability to apply sustainable design principles within projects.

    • Outstanding consulting skills with ability to present a credible, engaging image in keeping with Stantec's high service standards.

    • Excellent verbal and written communication skills and polished presentation and public speaking skills.

    • Travel is required to meet engagement/client requirements.

    Education and Experience

    Bachelor's or Master's degree in Architecture is required.

    Licensed and credentialed Architect is preferred.

    Minimum of 15 years of experience in the architecture and industry is preferred.

    Delivering projects 10 years in the Texas market with a strong background in the education sector is preferred.
