  • UPMC Presbyterian is looking to hire a Pharmacy Assistant to join our team! The schedule for this position will be Monday to Friday 1:30pm-10:00pm.

    Qualified candidates are eligible for a sign on bonus of up to $5,000 with a 2-year work commitment to UPMC!

    • $3,000 would be paid at the start of your journey with UPMC, with an additional $2,000 if promoted to Pharmacy Technician within first 6-months.

    Applicants will be placed in the appropriate job title and salary from the Pharmacy Career Ladder, based on their individual experience and education.

    Purpose:

    The Pharmacy Assistant provides pharmaceutical care to patients within the UPMC Health System by primarily assisting with the organization, stocking, and distribution of medications while under the direct supervisor of a licensed pharmacist. The Pharmacy Assistant services are provided in compliance with Department of Health, The Joint Commission, and State Board of Pharmacy regulations.

    Responsibilities:

    1. General Support:

    • Provide and receive information (via telephone, person-to-person, or written) to hospital personnel, patients, and visitors.

    • Refer all drug information questions to Staff Pharmacists.

    • Finalize sales using the cash register and follow proper cash handling policies and procedures.

    • Develop and maintain a clean, organized, and adequately stocked work environment.

    • Ensure that all medications in all areas are safely and securely stored according to Department of Health, The Joint Commission, and State Board of Pharmacy regulations.

    • Maintain all pertinent documentation, including eye wash logs, refrigerator logs, perpetual inventory logs, etc.

    • Comply with Federal and State laws (such as HIPAA), regulations (such as OSHA), and PBM contracting requirements (such as FWA and CMS).

    • Practice appropriate hand hygiene both in the pharmacy and in the units.

    • Use computer skills to process and maintain all patient information and records.

    2. Distribution:

    • Participate in the distribution of medication, including medication cassettes, emergency medication carts, and the delivery of controlled substances per department policy and state and federal requirements.

    • Retrieve medications that have been discontinued and return them (and process any necessary credits) to the appropriate pharmacy area.

    3. Filling:

    • Assist in the preparation of proper oral medications for the correct patient, ensuring administration at the appropriate time.

    • Use proper technique in medication preparation.

    • Assist in filling medication orders through correct labeling, counting, and stocking practices. Initial and date products as required.

    • Completion of a high school diploma or equivalent is required.

    Licensure, Certifications, and Clearances:

    • Act 34 with renewal
