    The position will support the IT Telecommunications Engineering Construction group. Telecom Construction team is responsible for the design, engineering and coordination of the physical construction and splicing of aerial and underground fiber projects, physical construction related to Telecommunication buildings and towers, Fiber optic standards, and support of Telecom Operations with fiber optic repair support. They will provide training and guidance to lower-level engineers.

    Primary Duties and Responsibilities

    • Review, prioritize and complete projects involving construction of aerial and underground fiber projects

    • Participate in the development, review and documentation of the enterprise fiber optic standards involving fiber optic cable, construction, testing and acceptance.

    • Coordinate fiber repairs on fiber outages in coordination with Telecom Operations and will develop controlled splice procedures (MOPs - Method of Procedure)

    • Build and foster strong relationships and partnerships with Business Units (Transmission, Distribution, etc.), Inspectors/Construction Coordinators, Construction companies / crews.

    • Support a strong construction safety culture and facilitate the execution of safety standards and practices.

    • Review, prioritize and categorize projects

    • Engineer and design fiber routes including railroad, river and highway crossings including working with Right of Way team for proper permits

    • Procure fiber optic cable, equipment and accessories including bid process as needed

    • Work with Design and Documentation team to create construction, splicing and as-built drawings

    • Select and manage Inspectors and construction contractors

    • Provide project coordination including attending weekly meetings and field site visits

    • Review, document and promote fiber construction and installation standards

    • Follow Construction team processes and standards

    • Provide technical support to Telecom Operations as required

    • Promote safety standards and practices

    • Develop Internal / External partnerships and relationships

    • Work under supervision of Engineer IV, Senior Engineers, and Principal Engineers

    Education and Experience Requirements

    • Five to eight years of experience in aerial and underground fiber and copper communication cable engineering, operation and construction related methods, procedures and technologies

    • Five to eight years of experience in Detailed fiber system optical and route design

    • Five to eight years of experience with communications tower and facilities engineering, operation and construction related methods, and procedures

    • Five to eight years of experience managing contract construction/installation work teams

    • Five to eight years of experience planning and budgeting network additions and changes

    • Five to eight years of prioritizing projects and tasks

    • Bachelor's Degree in engineering, engineering technology, computer science, or telecommunications or related discipline is preferred

    • PE or RCDD preferred, but not required; OSHA 30-hour training a plus
