Position Title: Mechanic II - Power Plant

Position Purpose:

This position assists with repairs, services, and replaces mechanical plant equipment and machines replacement parts. The incumbent performs mechanical duties and critical/non-critical welding, painting, and insulating duties.

Essential Functions:

• Assist with maintaining and repairing the plant mechanical equipment including conveyors, pumps, fans, gearboxes, valves, and air compressors. Repair tagged equipment as required. Perform critical/non-critical welding in accordance with the American Society of Mechanical Engineers (ASME) and American Welding Society (AWS) Codes.

• Ensure all tools and equipment are in good working condition.

• Perform welding on piping, equipment, and structural steel as required.

• Maintain accurate records and reports of all pertinent information on plant equipment through the work management system.

• Perform machining duties to manufacture replacement parts using lathes, milling machines, and grinders.

• Perform cleaning duties and routine shop/ground maintenance as assigned.

• Assist in the instruction of apprentices by providing work direction and on-the-job training for the apprentices.

Qualifications:

• High school diploma or equivalent (GED or HSED) and five years of industrial mechanical maintenance, machinist, or welding experience; or

• Completion of an accredited two-year post-secondary mechanical maintenance, machinist, or welding program and three years of related experience; or

• Completion of a recognized mechanical maintenance, machinist, or welding apprenticeship program or associated trade and two years of related experience.

• Able to analyze data, present information to others, and provide work direction as required.

• Perform critical/non-critical welding or machining duties.

• A valid driver's license.

Typical Physical/Mental/Environmental Demands:

This position requires continuous standing; frequent walking, reaching, pushing, pulling and lifting up to 50 pounds; and occasional sitting, bending, climbing, kneeling and crawling. This position is continuously exposed to dirt/dust; frequently exposed to extreme heat, fumes, chemicals, vibration, and noise; and occasionally exposed to cold, poor ventilation, and electrical risks. This position also requires finger dexterity, hand coordination good hearing, and good vision. Tools and equipment operated in this position include (forklift, crane, hoist, come along, sling, jack hammer, machine cutting tools, drill press, hand tools, saw, drill, sander, impact wrench, laser alignment equipment, hydraulic, pneumatic and measuring tools, welder and grinder). This position requires the ability to repair equipment under pressure due to time constraints such as outages, etc. This position will be required to work at heights up to 300 feet, which requires the use of safety equipment, including a harness, in accordance with ANSI Z359 standards. This position requires the ability to operate a motor vehicle and must be respirator qualified.

Wage : $52.54 per hour
