    Role Summary

    The Managing Director Accounting Operations sets the long-term strategy and oversees financial performance for Accounting Operations at Alaska Airlines. As a people leader, this role establishes strategic goals and direction for a team of leaders in revenue accounting, accounts payable, fuel accounting, cargo accounting, customer payments and collections, and fraud protection with an emphasis on efficient processes and accurate financial results. This executive role reports to the VP Finance and Controller and provides thought leadership and strategic counsel to executives through expert-level knowledge of revenue accounting, airline industry best practices, and accounting operations best practices. This leader serves as a valued consultant to the executive team for Alaska Airlines.

    Key Duties

    • Set long-term strategy for accounting operations, including revenue accounting, accounts payable, fuel accounting, cargo accounting, customer payments and collections, and fraud protection with an emphasis on efficient processes and accurate financial results.

    • Oversee Accounting Operations' month-end close process, ensuring close is delivered timely, with accurate results, and that balance sheet account reconciliations are error free.

    • Develop direct and indirect reports with effective performance management and ongoing feedback, fostering strategic and systems thinking, development of talent, and succession planning across teams and functions.

    • Communicate and present financial results, insights, and financial recommendations to executive leaders.

    • Co-sponsor Air Group's procure-to-pay transformation efforts together with the Managing Director, Supply Chain, to drive process improvements, automation, and efficiencies.

    • Take a lead role in readying Air Group's accounting processes for near-term industry and technology changes, including NDC, one-order and more.

    • Establish and monitor key metrics and performance indicators to measure the health and efficiency of accounting operations processes.

    • Evaluate the technical competence, effectiveness and productivity of the accounting operations team and its processes; strive to continually improve accounting operations' performance in meeting the needs of the Company it redesigns processes, implements new systems.

    • Partner effectively with other finance leaders and non-accounting functions to communicate and collaborate, strengthen controls, and drive process enhancements.

    • Provide strategic recommendations to enterprise leaders regarding accounting implications for changes throughout the business.

    • Leverage in-depth understanding of Air Group's financial systems, source information, and accounting and finance methodologies to provide insights and lead cross-departmental projects and initiatives.

    Job-Specific Experience, Education & Skills

    Required

    • 10 years of financial analysis, financial reporting or related experience.

    • 5 years of people leadership experience, with demonstrated success managing high-performing teams.

    • Bachelor's degree in finance or a related field, or willingness to attain a bachelor's degree within six years of start date.

    • Ability to engage and establish credibility with business partners at the most senior/executive level.

    • High energy, positive, and executive-level presence, along with top-notch written and verbal communication, public speaking, influencing, and motivational skills.

    • High school diploma or equivalent is required.

    • Minimum age of 18.

    • Must be authorized to work in the U.S.

    Preferred

    • Airline industry experience.

    • Master's Degree, Master of Business Administration or a related field.

    • CPA.

    Salary Range

    $182,600 - $301,300 / year

    Total Target Compensation Range (incl. bonus & equity)

    $301,300 - $497,100

    The pay range and total target compensation package listed above is the expected pay offered for this position at the start of employment. Your pay will be based on multiple factors, including and not limited to location, your relevant experience/level, experience level, and skillset while balancing internal equity relative to other Alaska/Horizon employees.
