    Job Summary of the Mammography Technologist

    Provides health care services, applying x-ray energy to assist in diagnosis or treatment. Performs medical imaging techniques and related procedures to demonstrate breast anatomy for interpretation and/or intervention by, or at the request of a licensed practitioner. Exercises professional judgment in performance of services and maintains a demeanor complementary to medical ethics. Applies appropriate patient care and recognizes patient conditions essential for successful completion of the procedure. Applies knowledge of the principles of growth and development over the life span to identify patient and family requirements relative to age-specific needs. The technologist performs daily QC test, scans patients, analyzes the scan and prepares the data for reading. Further, the technologist will assist with all routine department duties such as management of patient schedules, generation of reports, maintaining patient records, mailing records to referring physicians and other duties as assigned. Participates in providing patient specific care standards as directed, and follows service excellence standards to ensure high levels of patient satisfaction.

    Responsibilities of the Mammography Technologist

    • Perform all mammography, needle localization, ductograms and Stereotactic breast biopsy procedures.

    • Select and operate breast imaging equipment and associated devices to achieve desired results

    • Understand policies and procedures regarding mammography and physician protocol preferences.

    • Educate and prepare the patient for the procedure. Provide emotional support and reassurance by being an advocate for the patient.

    • Position patient and equipment to best demonstrate anatomic area of interest, respecting patient ability and comfort.

    • Assist the radiologist to achieve successful completion of the interventional procedure.

    • Responsible for ongoing development/monitoring For QA program and providing monthly/quarterly QA results to mammography coordinator.

    • Ensure proper procedures are being followed to fulfill ACR, FDA, MSQA, and TDH requirements.

    • Other related duties.

    Qualifications of the Mammography Technologist

    EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE :

    • Required: Graduate of an educational program in mammography accredited by the Joint Review Committee on Education in Radiologic Technology (JRCERT) or graduate of an American Medical Association approved program in Radiologic Technology or a military training program of equivalent standards.

    • Preferred: Associates Degree or higher in Radiologic Technology. One to two years as a previous experience as a Mammography Technologist.

    LICENSES AND CERTIFICATES :

    • Required: Certified Texas Department of Health Medical Radiologic Technologist; Registered Technologist with the American Registry of Radiologic Technologists, post- primary certification in Radiography and Mammography (ARRT (R, M)). If hired prior to 4/13/12 and been performing x-rays since 1987 AND was grandfathered in by the state of Texas, only CMRT required.

    • BLS certification as per SDH policy.

    This role requires you to be fully vaccinated for COVID-19 based on local, state and /or federal law or regulations (unless a medical or religious exemption is approved).
