  • Johns Hopkins University and Medicine, a world leader in advancing biomedical research, medical education, and precision medicine initiatives, is looking for a talented biomedical librarian to serve as the Informationist for the Johns Hopkins Bayview Medical Center (JHBMC). The Johns Hopkins Bayview Medical Center is a 460-bed teaching hospital located in southeast Baltimore on a 130-acre campus. The successful candidate will join a team of twelve Informationists at the Welch Medical Library who support the educational, clinical, and research missions of the Johns Hopkins School of Medicine, School of Nursing, Bloomberg School of Public Health, and the Johns Hopkins Health Systems.

    The successful applicant will be able to take advantage of a highly flexible work environment, build partnerships with user communities, and develop new services and curricula. This individual will join the library's Informationist team at the forefront of revitalizing the way information experts engage with the Hopkins' academic community. The team works on a hybrid schedule, with three days in office and two days working from home. The position reports to the Associate Director of Informationist Services.

    Specific Duties & Responsibilities

    • Provide dedicated support to the clinicians, residents, and nurses at the Johns Hopkins Bayview Medical Center to support excellence in clinical practice and research.

    • Provide direct assistance to users via email, and in-person and virtual consultation.

    • Develop, implement, and promote educational programming, for in-person and online instruction, orientations, and workshops.

    • Design and develop instructional materials, such as tutorials, LibGuides, and online curricular materials.

    • Contribute to the library's support of expert-level literature reviews, including systematic reviews, by participating in effective project consultations and research projects as appropriate.

    • Work collaboratively to conduct and present library research based on services, education, and outreach developed in their role.

    • Work collaboratively and collegially with colleagues to support the library's vision, mission, and strategic priorities.

    • Serve on library and departmental committees and/or task forces as appropriate.

    • Work on additional initiatives dependent on library needs / candidate's interest and expertise.

    Additional Knowledge, Skills & Abilities

    • Excellent presentation, instruction, communication, and relationship-building skills are required.

    • Must be able to demonstrate experience at time of interview in the use of information technologies, information management tools, and a high level of analytical and searching skills.

    Minimum Qualifications

    • MLS from an ALA-accredited library school or an advanced related degree.

    • Two years related experience.

    Preferred Qualifications

    • Experience in a health sciences library.

    • Prior experience working in an academic health sciences, biomedical library or affiliated clinical/research environment.

    • Expert database searching and citation management skills.

    • Demonstrated abilities in teaching evidence-based practice to health professions learners.

    • Demonstrated interest in librarian involvement in systematic review process and methodology.

    • Creative approach to active adult learner engagement.

    • Demonstrated interest in using emerging technologies and software to create solutions that address the evolving information needs of a clinical enterprise.
