    Recent major research highlights and accolades (~~~/)

    The Vice Chair for Research is expected to

    • Engineer evolution toward a more optimal basic, translational, clinical and community-based research environment

    • Assist in the development of the Child Health Research Center (CHRC) as a superior research center

    • Work with the CHRC Director and Chair to update the strategic plan for research and develop focused areas of research advancement, and to run Research Day

    • Foster development of our pipeline of young investigators by:

    • Develop a departmental K-club (or encourage participation in institutional K-clubs)

    • Encouraging participation in K-and R- grant writing workshops and other similar programs offered at an institutional level to optimize results

    • Ensure all K and initial R grants go through a process of initial review (akin to mock study section) at a departmental level

    • Develop with the chair a pilot funding proposal to support preliminary data gathering for the most promising young investigators

    • Develop support and training services for researchers at all levels (including managing grants and their finances (pre- and post-award), lab management)

    • Ensure that every grant application and every PI gets the required support to ensure the best chances at successful funding

    • Support faculty that are bridged by reviewing grant applications, review scoring and summary statements, and making recommendations for bridging support.

    • Develop a plan for bridge funding (with the Chair): who gets this and for how long

    • Ensure that the research community in the department remains informed of research grant opportunities

    • Ensure availability of a core pool of CRCs with fair distribution across divisions, and a consistent process of CRC training and competency assessment, niche expertise development, and professional advancement

    • Ensure access to biostatistics support

    • Work with the Chair on strategic research hires, particularly with respect to growing destination centers and centers of excellence, and NIH funding

    Base salary will be determined annually according to the Department of Pediatric Faculty Compensation Plan. In addition to the base salary, you will receive an additional administrative supplement and 20% protected time for as long as you serve in the role of Vice Chair. Should you discontinue serving in the capacity as Vice Chair; the administrative supplement will no longer be paid, as of the next pay period.

    Annually, the Chair and the Vice Chair for Research will agree on 2-4 metrics, achievement of which will make you eligible for incentive compensation; these goals may be assigned as part of the Department Annual Review with the Dean's Office. You will continue to be eligible for clinical and academic incentive compensation plans in place in the Department of Pediatrics.
