    The Office of Fraternity and Sorority Life (OFSL) has a primary role in advising the Interfraternity Council, the Multicultural Greek Council, National Pan-Hellenic Council, the Panhellenic Association, and their services and programs. The OFSL was also founded to provide a range of services to fraternity and sorority chapters, their members, alumni/ae and (inter)national offices. These include Programming, Advocacy, Advisement, Connections, Training, and Standards.

    POSITION PURPOSE
    This position works in concert with the Director of the Office of Fraternity & Sorority Life (OFSL) and other Assistant Directors to further the growth and development of fraternities and sororities and the associated councils at the University of Washington. The Assistant Directors play a key role in developing and implementing new projects, programs, and services.

    This position will advise, mentor, and guide assigned council executive officers with regard to program development, community needs, advancing the fraternity and sorority community, promoting fraternity and sorority cooperation and community spirit. This position will also guide the IFC and/or Panhellenic and their member chapters to better themselves individually and collectively and to provide an environment rich in learning, leadership, and growth.

    DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES Advising (50%)

    • Advise and serve as a resource for the Interfraternity Council and/or Panhellenic Association and their respective boards, committees, and officers.

    • Form and advise the Order of Omega, Rho Lambda, Gamma Sigma Alpha, Greek Ambassadors, etc.

    • Plan, implement, and facilitate the annual chapter presidents' retreat.

    • Develop and support the programming and projects of the Councils, including program assessment.

    • Support annual events such as Greek Preview, Dawg Daze, New Member Day, Greek Week, etc.

    • Support the annual Greek Awards process as well as Council awards applications on the regional and national levels.

    • Develop and organize new or enhance existing Council-sponsored events and programs encouraging evaluation for future planning.

    • Train Council executive boards, standards boards, recruitment counselors, etc.

    • Coordinate and/or advise governing councils on their respective membership recruitment procedures.

    • Interpret and implement University, OFSL, and respective Council-related guidelines, policies, and procedures (i.e., Constitutions, Bylaws, NPC and NIC guidelines, University Recognition Agreement).

    • Design, implement, and present educational opportunities that focus on issues specific to the Greek community, (i.e., risk and facility management, diversity, philanthropy, new member development, and scholarship). Primary focus shall be given to programs outlined in the OFSL operating agreement.Administration (25%)

    • Work in conjunction with student leaders to maintain various Council bank accounts as well as billing, collection, payment, and accounting procedures.

    • Maintain the office database, produce chapter grade reports on a quarterly basis, produce annual retention report, and process weekly event reports.

    • Maintain the department website, listservs, and social media accounts.

    • Collect and maintain files for recognition agreements, quarterly reports, membership rosters and data, grade report information, grade release signatures, recruitment statistics, etc.

    • Support office operations, including file maintenance, computer services, copier and telephone equipment, supplies, etc.Communication (15%)

    • Develop and maintain collaborative working relationships with chapter and alumni/ae advisors, corporation board officers, house directors, and (inter)national headquarters.

    • As requested/invited, and as time permits, make presentations to individual fraternities and sororities, visiting chapter houses, attending significant chapter events.

    • Work in conjunction with, and maintaining positive interactions with, other administrative departments such as UWPD, HUB, Housing and Food Services, Registrar, Admissions, First Year Programs, Student Life Advancement, Community Standards and Student Conduct, Livewell, etc. Represent OFSL to other departments as needed.

    • Draft correspondence, reports, promotional and other written materials. Assist with production of such as needed.Miscellaneous (10%)

    • Attend professional and regional student conferences as funding permits. Submission of program proposals is encouraged, also pending availability of funding to attend.

    • Perform special projects and other duties as assigned. MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS

    • Master's degree in higher education, student affairs, or related field.

    • 2-3+ years experience serving as a campus-based Greek advisor or headquarters staff member (at least one year must be beyond the consultant level).

    • Equivalent education/experience will substitute for all minimum qualifications except when there are legal requirements, such as a license/certification/registration. DESIRED QUALIFICATIONS Demonstrated success in and knowledge of:

    • The organization, function, and purpose of fraternity and sorority life.

    • The development, delivery and assessment of educational programs and student learning opportunities.

    • (Inter)national fraternity and sorority policies and procedures.

    • The organization, functions, and purposes of a fraternity and sorority community within a university setting.Position Complexities The position requires a nuanced approach to fraternity and sorority advising not commonly found at other campuses. UW students are independent, resourceful, and forward thinking. The fraternities and sororities are very old (from a West Coast standpoint) and self-sufficient, often in terms of their relationships with their (inter)national organizations, advisors, and the University. Many are single letter chapters. Advisors and house corps are generally well experienced and knowledgeable. The UW Greek community provides a challenging and invigorating advising experience unlike any other.SupervisionThis position will work under the general supervision of the Director of the Office of Fraternity and Sorority Life. CONDITIONS OF EMPLOYMENT

    • Evening (up to 3 days per week) and occasional weekend work necessary, including every Wednesday evening during the academic quarters.

    • This position will work in an office setting when not supporting events on-site. Flexible and hybrid work schedule available. Regular evening and weekend work is required, including Wednesday evenings during the academic year and occasional overnight weekends for retreats and conferences.

    • During Panhellenic recruitment, this position will reside in an on-campus residence hall 24/7 for 8-9 nights.
