    This position is responsible for performing janitorial duties and some other indoor/outdoor maintenance activities including participation in interment operations at a State Veterans Cemetery.

    1. Perform janitorial and housekeeping duties so that buildings are clean, safe, orderly and provide an attractive environment for both the public and cemetery staff.

    2. Perform preventative maintenance and participate in minor repair of cemetery buildings, equipment, vehicles, and tools.

    3. Participate in Interment Operations as assigned or required by workload or seasonal conditions.

    4. Perform grounds/roads maintenance tasks as assigned or required by workload or seasonal conditions to ensure a very high standard of appearance and landscape health.

    5. Answer general questions from visitors and perform other related duties, as assigned.

    6. Work as part of a team with other participants in the Minnesota Department of Veterans Affairs (MDVA) Memorial Affairs Division, comply with Occupational Safety and Health act and perform miscellaneous tasks as required to facilitate the responsibilities of the work unit and the division.

    This position is located in Little Falls, Minnesota.

    Minimum Qualifications

    Knowledge of

    • Cleaning methods, techniques, materials, and equipment sufficient to prepare cleaning solutions and compounds, operate cleaning equipment and perform minor repairs

    • Grounds keeping practices sufficient to assist in planting, pruning trees, plants, shrubs and turf

    • Hand and power tools sufficient to safely and effectively operate and perform preventative maintenance and minor repairs

    • Basic building fixtures (e.g., doors, locks, windows) and grounds structures (e.g., fences, signs, flag poles) sufficient to perform minor maintenance and installation work

    • Safety and accident prevention measures sufficient to identify safety hazards, make necessary repairs, and/or alert appropriate personnel

    Ability to

    • Operate motorized vehicles (e.g., trucks, mowers) and equipment (e.g., chainsaws, weed whips, tamper, etc.)

    • Understand and follow directions sufficient to interpret and carry out assignments independently with limited supervision.

    • Effective communicate with the public and other employees.

    Preferred Qualifications

    • Experience with any repair, maintenance, fabrication or installation work.

    • Experience with basic fertilizer application.

    • Experience with Cemetery interment operations.

    • Knowledge of Microsoft Suite software such as Word, Excel, Outlook, and Teams

    Physical Requirements

    The ability to regularly move, transport, position, install, and remove a variety of items weighing up to 50 lbs. unassisted and over 50 lbs. with the assistance of another person while positioning self to move in all directions; with or without reasonable accommodations.
