Change can be challenging, but it is also inevitable. Job seekers must analyze their goals regularly to evaluate if the goals they have set are attainable and realistic. Changing your goals does not indicate you are giving up or have failed. Instead, clarifying what you want in a career can help you succeed.

When it comes to your job search, it may be time to change your goals when you are not seeing results or progress. Assess what aspects of your job search are not going according to plan. Are you spending too much time on perfecting your resume and not enough on networking? Are you researching companies that are not actively hiring? Consider your current practices and seek out ways to change them so you can achieve results.

It may also be time to change your job search or career goals when you are not excited or passionate about your chosen field. Make a list of the reasons why you have chosen this career while also making a list of alternatives. Think critically about which career is of most interest to you. Even though you may be more qualified for one type of career, if you don't have the passion for it, it could be stifling your results during the job search.

Evaluate your personal circumstances to determine if you should change your job search goals. If you are struggling financially and have found yourself unemployed, you may need to temporarily alter your search toward firms with immediate openings versus pursuing a dream job. Taking a position for financial purposes right away is not always a negative. Use this opportunity to learn more skills and gain experience as you continue your job search.
