The thought of making a career change may seem challenging, but if you're not completely satisfied in your current position, the remaining years you spend working could feel like an eternity. Consider these seven signs that it may be time for a career change.

1. Your Boss Doesn't Appreciate You

Everyone wants to feel a sense of belonging in the workplace, and employees are more motivated when superiors appreciate their work and acknowledge their efforts. If your boss belittles you or doesn't show appreciation, consider looking for a new job where your hard work is recognized.

2. You See No Opportunity for Advancement

Whether you continue to get passed up for promotions or you're moving from company to company doing the same job for similar pay, it may be time for a career change. Consider fulfilling the educational requirements necessary to move into a higher-paying position or a job industry that makes you feel motivated to advance.

3. You Dread the Thought of the Next Work Day

If you can't bear the idea of returning to work on Monday morning or sitting through another Wednesday afternoon staff meeting, it's likely time for a change. The physical dread you feel about your workplace, co-workers and duties can lead to depression if you don't find a position that's satisfying.

4. You're Being Micromanaged

Employees get a greater sense of satisfaction from their work when they feel a sense of independence. If you can't set your own priorities, make decisions about your day-to-day duties or express yourself creatively, opt for a career change that allows you to exercise some control.

5. You're Not Getting Paid Enough

Even if you love the work you do and get along well with your co-workers, financial considerations can lead to the need to change careers. If your paycheck doesn't cover basic living expenses or the stress of the job doesn't match the compensation you receive, take stock of the situation and find an alternative.

6. You're Bored by the Work

If the monotony of your job is too much to handle and you dread running another daily finance report, you're likely to burn out before you ever reach retirement. Look for a career move that makes you feel excited about your duties and complete work that is fulfilling and meaningful to you.

7. You're Emotionally Beat Down

Whether you're constantly stressed about high-priority deadlines or cranky after facing another boring day at the office, your emotions play a role in your interactions with others outside of the office. If you're short-tempered and anxious at home, make a career change before your job dissatisfaction ruins personal relationships with your loved ones.

Being dissatisfied with your work can impact your life in many directions, taking a toll on your physical well-being, your mental health, your finances and your personal relationships. If you're noticing signs that it may be time for a career change, look for a new job to better ensure that your future is happy and healthy.
