Sandra Bullock Helps Open New Orleans Charter School Health Clinic

Five years after Hurricane Katrina, Sandra Bullock returned to New Orleans to open a $700,000 health clinic at a local high school.

The Oscar-winning 46-year-old actress was the keynote speaker at New Orleans's Warren Easton Charter High School to cut the ceremonial ribbon at the new campus health clinic she helped fund. She noted that she had spent many memorable summers in New Orleans in the past and was very much impressed by students at the school.

The Warren Easton Charter High School-based health clinic is a full-service on-campus medical and dental clinic that provides services ranging from flu shots to emergency care. The school has a nearly 100 percent graduation rate, but had suffered over $4 million in damages during hurricane Katrina. It has since made quite a comeback.

The new clinic was created in a partnership with Tulane Medical Center, Louisiana School Health Connection and the Warren Easton Charter High School Foundation. Major funding for the $700,000 facility comes from the Kellogg Foundation, Sandra Bullock, and The San Francisco 49ers Foundation.

Bullock noted during her presentation that she was delighted to be in the company of people who did the hard work and have actually made a difference. She added that the young adults have seen the very worst, and they are committed to the very best.
