Become Active in the Online Gold Mine

Create a professional brand online by establishing yourself as an expert in the field. Craft an online portfolio or website that details your experience, skills and interests. Post informative articles related to your industry, follow hashtags aligned with your expertise an create blog posts that offer tips or industry insight. Join online groups related to your desired position, and actively engage with a professional network with individuals who have the same career interests or have established themselves as influential professionals in your industry.

Immerse Yourself in a Professional Network

Seek out people with similar career interests by joining professional organizations. Attend industry events, happy hour gatherings, and conferences sponsored by the organizations. Volunteer within societies related to your field to boost your network and gain contacts that can lead you to job openings.

Get Social in Your Community

Grow your professional network even more by talking to the people around you. When attending sporting events, community social gatherings and parties, launch conversations that ultimately reveal you are in the midst of a job search. Word-of-mouth can be an incredibly helpful tool to lead you to professionals who can help refer you to hiring managers and potential employers.

Obtain job leads by connecting with the right people who can help you get in contact with representatives of companies you find appealing. Your professional network is essential, but you must also take action to meet with individuals who can help advance your career opportunities. @Pamela sometimes it does feel that way. That you just keep going and going with no end in sight. But that's not true. The job market has been slowly recovering and more jobs are posted every day. Just make sure that you are treating your job search as a job; that you are giving it the time and attention it deserves. Use your network. Don't be afraid to let family and friends know that you are searching and to let you know if they hear of any positions. Get on your social media sites and see if you can find a connection to a company of interest. Keep doing this and the ride will end soon.
