We are seeking a Security Officer I that will receive general direction from the Security Manager, Supervisor or Lead Security Officer, performs a variety of security protective duties to protect patients, visitors, staff, physicians, property and facilities from accidents, bodily harm, fire, theft, vandalism, and illegal entry. Enforces PH&S, facility and security policies and regulations. Investigate reports of potential criminal conduct against PH&S staff, visitors, staff, and property; respond and assist in restraining patients; detain individuals when necessary or at the direction of a police officer; and provide protective services to high risk areas. Mobile positions will conduct vehicle and foot patrols, patient transports, site surveys, threat assessments, patient standbys, alarm/nuisance call response, special details and assist in training of clinic personnel. May be required to support any Providence or affiliated organizations within the Oregon Region.
In this position you will have the following responsibilities:
Respond immediately and appropriately to emergency situations such as, combative or violent people, missing patients, fire alarms, elevator entrapments and other crimes on campus
Patrol facilities and grounds both internally and externally to promote a safe and secure environment
Enforce parking policies/procedures and issues parking citations as necessary
Enforce compliance with all laws, rules, regulations and policies governing the hospital and medical center. Follows all facility and department policies and procedures
Respond to calls for assistance and provides vehicle assistance for patients, visitors and staff as appropriate (jump starts, etc.). Is alert to any hazardous or unsafe conditions while on patrol
Correct or refer hazardous conditions to the appropriate personnel for correction, i.e., Maintenance, Environmental Services, and Safety Dept.
Rapidly de-escalate violent situations, perform crisis intervention in a volatile and dynamic environment, physically restrains patients using appropriate procedures and effect arrests when necessary
Ensure Behavioral Health patients remain safe in their room as requested by clinical staff. Transports/escorts medical and Behavioral Health patients to appropriate location throughout the campus
Ensure the safety of ED patient by searching and securing weapons or other belongings according to policy guidelines
Gather accurate evidence and information for reporting of criminal activity to local Law Enforcement and may be required to testify in court for relevant cases
Prepare a variety of reports related to arrests, security incidents, investigation results and unusual activity. Documentation must comply with Department guidelines for potential submission to other PH&S Departments and government agencies
Help to ensure effective communication and good relations by providing information to staff, visitors and patients, giving directions within the medical center, and giving general information regarding rules and regulations
Interact with local law enforcement officials as necessary and follows the "Integrity and Compliance" guidelines for disseminating information to law enforcement
Maintain job-specific certifications, educational requirements and attends all mandatory training and meeting
Security is considered essential staff and therefore may be required to report to duty or hold over during inclement weather conditions and other emergencies to maintain operational needs
Provide excellent internal and external customer service
Assist with transportation of patients, visitors, and employees
Provide Access Control monitoring at various facilities
Issues temporary ID badges and keys to employees, contractors, students, and visitors as necessary
Work with members of other departments to lead, counsel, resolve or investigate safety and security issues
Participate in drills and emergency precautionary demonstrations
Direct traffic and pedestrian flow to maintain order at public gatherings
Maintain confidential information pursuant to applicable privacy laws
Required qualifications for this position includes:
Valid driver's license with good driving record
State of Oregon Department of Public Safety Standards and Training (DPSST) Professional Certification -OR- temporary work permit upon start of work date
Cardiopulmonary Resuscitation (CPR) certified -OR- obtained within 90 days of hire
One (1) year of experience using personal computer with standard Microsoft applications
Preferred qualifications for this position includes:
College coursework/Training:College level coursework in professionally related fields such as criminal justice, social work, psychology or any social science
One (1) year security/law enforcement experience such as corrections, police, reserve and military police
Direct patient care experience in a healthcare industry
