Autoliv ASP, Inc. has an opening for the position of Project Engineer/Manager (Ref# PEM35JM).
WORK LOCATION: 1320 Pacific Drive, Auburn Hills, MI 48326. Position requires up to 20% domestic & international travel.
Project Engineer/Manager of seatbelt development and production launch for awarded projects within the European Business Unit. Responsible for all aspects and phases from project nomination to serial life handover to automotive customers. Understand project scope and technical content based on quotation phase negotiations and nominated content as the basis of all development activities. Manage a cross-functional team consisting of members from all departments that are actively involved in the development of new products. Keep and update timing schedule of activities for the projects. Present and obtain approval for timeline from senior management and subsequently communicate it within the cross functional team. Coordinate the development tasks and define priorities for the cross-functional team. Ensure that Autoliv standards and policies are followed by the cross-functional team members through all development steps. Conduct the project according to APDS (Autoliv Product Development System).
Prepare internal as well as external reviews and milestone presentations with lead figures from the cross functional team. Communicate deliverables to each function and review results. Communicate changes in project scope or product design to all relevant functions within the cross functional team and review impact on component pricing, delivery timing, production line design, and component availability. Close collaboration on project development with the customer. Function as lead contact along with the Application Engineer and take ownership of overall development plan. Propose the product development strategy. Describe the strategy in a development plan and communicate the strategy across the cross-functional team. Responsible for all project expenditures occurring throughout the various functions (machine build, prototyping, purchasing, etc.). Manage project profitability and budget. Track all engineering changes and their impact on cost, project risk, and timing. Track all engineering, product, and tools costs. Take part and monitor Value Engineering / Value Analysis (VEVA) activities throughout the project with the goal of reducing cost. Report project status, assessment, and challenges to senior management to keep transparency and receive support on challenges. Keep the engineering deliverables (DFMEA's, DVP&R's, drawings, etc.) current. Manage global communication and collaborate with global organizations to drive innovation and present one global voice to the customer. Communicate and negotiate the specifications and requirements with customer.
Support Customer meetings related to the project for technical, timing and deliverable issues during the development. Represent Autoliv North America as general customer interface for European automotive customers. Ensure customer requirements are satisfied. Support internal plant. Attend to major reviews. Ensure successful launches on time at customer and Autoliv assembly facilities by coordinating resources. Ensure prototype deliveries on time according to customer needs. Contribute in the quotations for new business and lead technical part of quotation phase towards the customer. Assure company interest and bottom line are maintained in all activities. FQTC (Function-Quality-Timing-Cost) on program. Support global quote activities. Bring customer needs and wants to the organization. Supply the information needed by the customer (technical presentation, project status, etc.). Monitor all project timing charts, key milestone dates, and APDS timing. Prepare material and attend tollgate and recommendation meetings. Assume project reporting to management. Inform the management on risks on the project on real time with proposed containment actions plan. Secure the storage of project information as needed. Ensure existing databases are used by the cross-functional team members.
This position requires a Bachelor’s degree or foreign academic equivalent in Mechanical Engineering, Industrial Engineering, or a related field. Plus 3 years of experience in the job offered or 3 years in a related occupation including Project Leader or related experience. Position requires 1 year of experience with managing seatbelt development & production launch, managing a cross-functional team, customer interface & customer communication, managing project profitability & budget, and VEVA. 40hours/week.
