Located in Southern Orange County, about 67 miles from San Diego, the City of San Juan Capistrano is a picturesque and historic community of just over 36,000 residents within an area of 14 square miles. The City is predominately residential with a mix of commercial, industrial, agricultural and tourist-oriented businesses. The mild coastal valley climate has an average temperature of 73 degrees. The Utility Director provides highly responsible and complex administrative support to the City Manager and plans, organizes, directs, and coordinates the programs and services of the Utility Department. He/She oversees the operation and development of the City’s sewer, water production and distribution systems, and water treatment plant. Requires a bachelor’s degree in engineering, water resources, environmental science or a closely related field; and 7 years of increasingly responsible experience in the related field, including at least 5 years of responsible management and supervisory level experience in water operations (a master’s degree in public administration or a related field and possession of a valid certificate of registration as a professional engineer issued by the California State Board of Registration for Civil and Professional Engineers are desired).
