QUALIFICATIONS: Knowledge of police and security practices and procedures; knowledge of relevant state and federal laws, statutes and regulations; knowledge of traffic and crowd control practices and procedures; knowledge of criminal law and court procedures; considerable interpersonal skills; oral and written communication skills; ability to analyze emergency situations and develop effective courses of action to same. Candidates MUST possess a current valid POST certification. Incumbents must possess credentials which will satisfy the selection and retention standards of the Police Officer Standards and Training Council. Must possess and retain a valid Connecticut motor vehicle operators license. Must receive and retain authority for CGS 29-18 certification.
DUTIES: The Police Officer may perform a combination or concentration of the following functions on a fixed or rotating basis as directed by the agency: Security, Protection, Enforcement, and Administration.
CHARACTER REQUIREMENT: In addition to the checking of references and of facts stated in the application, a thorough background investigation of each candidate will be made before persons are permanently appointed, including the administration of a polygraph examination.
PHYSICAL REQUIREMENT: Incumbents in this class must possess general good health, be free from any disease or injury which would impair health or usefulness and possess and retain sufficient physical strength, stamina, agility and visual and auditory acuity to perform the duties of the class. Incumbents must undergo a medical and drug screening by an agency-selected provider. Incumbents in this class will be required to pass a physical agility test as administered by POST.
WORKING CONDITIONS: Incumbents in this class may be exposed to unpleasant and/or dangerous situations which could cause injury or loss of life, to uncomfortable weather conditions and/or confinement within a vehicle and/or walking or standing for prolonged periods of time.
HOURS: Full-time, 40 hours per week, day or evening shift, by bid shift.
MINIMUM SALARY: $1,769.43 bi-weekly, plus excellent medical insurance, retirement and related fringe benefits.
